The modern supercar manufacturer Pagani blurs the distinction between a vehicle and an artwork more than any other. That still holds for the new Utopia model from the Italian company, which you can see here for the first time. This car would appear equally at home on a plinth as in a garage.
While many of the design elements from the prior Huayra are recognizable, Pagani asserts that Utopia's structure is entirely new. Horacio Pagani, the company's founder, set three goals for it to achieve: simplicity, lightness, and driving enjoyment.
The Pagani Utopia is powered by a 6.0L Twin Turbo V12 manufactured for Pagani by AMG. It has a 60-degree angle between the cylinders and produces 852 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. You have the option of a 7-speed automated or 7-speed manual transmission. The exhaust is made of titanium and coated with ceramic. The total curb weight is 2,822 pounds. The new design emphasizes minimalism and simplicity.
The rear clam is one massive piece, and there are minor technical elements like exposed screws on the mirrors on the outside. Pagani's Carbo-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62 materials are used to build Utopia's chassis. The body is made from a new carbon fiber that is 38% stiffer. The front and rear clamshells are still fastened with leather straps, and the back opens to reveal luggage panniers and the car's rear structure. The Utopia sticks have butterfly-opening doors, 21-inch front, and 22-inch rear alloy wheels, and turbine-shaped vanes to direct hot air away from the brakes. If you look closely, you'll notice that these take the form of the car's plan view silhouette. Two windows and a small rear screen resembling the early Lamborghini periscope are incorporated into the roof. A glass engine cover is located below and behind this, with a small window that allows you to see the top of V-12 and four dials in the middle of the dashboard.

The interior is even more special than the exterior. Horacio Pagani has previously expressed his displeasure with the widespread use of large display screens in high-end automobile interiors. Purchasers of Utopia won't have to deal with one of those. There is only one screen between the mechanical speedometer and the rev counter; otherwise, everything is analog. The cabin's construction and finishing quality make other hypercars look shoddy. The exposed shifter for the 7-speed manual transmission is a work of art in and of itself, as are the individual pedals and the steering wheel, both of which are milled from a single aluminum block. To choose the Robo-box and order this car without it would be illegal.
Only 99 Utopia coupes will be made, and they will only be built at the Pagani factory in San Cesario Sul Panaro in Modena, Italy, at a rate of just one a week. The first deliveries of cars with automated manual transmission will begin in the middle of the following year.
